2014 Biking for Breath PEI Fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada

In 2013, we completed the 850 km perimeter ride of Prince Edward Island as a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.  This year key organizers, Paula Clark and Jan Meulenkamp, are participating in the 2014 GearUp4CF ride, a 1200 km bike ride from Vancouver to Banff over 9 days in late June.  As ‘Team Atlantic’, they have committed to raising $10,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, which is a huge fundraising and training undertaking.  We did not want to see our fundraising efforts for Cystic Fibrosis Canada in Atlantic Canada falter, so in 2014 we have decided to take on the challenge of a 5-day 500 km Confederation Trail ride in Prince Edward Island.

There are many “2014 Celebrations” happening in Prince Edward Island to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference.  This year the full Confederation Trail (former railway line) will be completed.  What better way to celebrate than to cycle the full 500 km of the Confederation trail, including branches, while also supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada?

Dates: August 16 – 20

Fundraising commitment: $2,500 (5-day riders) or $750 (weekend-only riders)

Deadline to register: June 15, 2014

Daily distances (which include trail branches on certain days):

Day 1: Charlottetown to Wellington (106 km)

Day 2: Wellington to Hunter River (100 km)

Day 3: Hunter River to Montague (107 km)

Day 4: East Point to Mount Stewart (96 km)

Day 5: Murray Harbour to Charlottetown (95 km)
